School Board and Forum Meetings

On Wednesday, August 29, 2012  GenevaTaxFACTSl hosted a SECOND Community Town Hall Meeting .  The information presented included a sunmary from a representative of the financial community of how the school district bonds were structured after the 2007 referendum, a comparison of teacher salaries for 2009-2011 and current teacher’s contract, discussion of the proposed 2012-2013 school budget (Revenues of approx. $89.8M-Expenditures of $93.7M) and the issue of a tax levy increase in next year’s property taxes.  Dialog following the topics with solutions presented by those present as well as questions from the audience are included here.

On June 4, 2012,  GenevaTaxFACTS hosted a Community Town Hall Meeting  at the First Baptist Church in Geneva.  Founder of the group, Bob McQuillan,  presented an overview of the financial situation of the Geneva Community School District 304 and how property taxes could be affected over the next 10 years.

A creative solution is often driven by a sense of frustration. Take for example having access to the record of board meetings conducted by our taxing bodies. These meetings are governed in Illinois by the Open Meetings Act. One of the key provisions is

5 ILCS 120/2.01) (from Ch. 102, par. 42.01) Sec. 2.01. All meetings required by this Act to be public shall be held at specified times and places which are convenient and open to the public. No meeting required by this Act to be public shall be held on a legal holiday unless the regular meeting day falls on that holiday.
